Outdoor Fun
Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve
Hatcher Garden has a variety of spring surprises and treasures for you to discover as you meander along the woodland preserve paths. The Garden is open daily from dawn to dusk. Admission free and the public is welcome. With so much to explore it’s a place the outdoor enthusiasts will love.

Edwin M. Griffin Nature Preserve
Edwin Griffin Nature Preserve is a 115 acre urban preserve and trail system. The Preserve is located near downtown Spartanburg and protects a 1.5 mile stretch of Lawson’s Fork Creek & offers over 5 miles of trails. The preserve boasts several wetlands, open spaces, geological formations, and offers habitat various wildlife, wildflowers, and trees. There are over 50 species of trees and a 550 foot boardwalk and observation deck allows users to access this part of the preserve with wetlands. The park is open daily dawn to dusk.
Once an army training base, Croft State Parts has over 7,000 acres of rolling wooded terrain. The Park is minutes from Downtown Spartanburg and offers 12 miles of biking and hiking trails, a playground, picnicking and camping, as well as fishing and boating in one of two lakes. Croft is known around the region for its equestrian facilities. The park regularly hosts shows in its arena and boasts more than 20 miles of equestrian trails. Admission for Adults starts at $2, Kids under 15 get in free. Park is open 7am to 9pm through the Summer. Check Out Their Map Here
Tyger River Park has 13 baseball/softball fields, batting cages, a clubhouse, a playground, picnic shelters, a 1.25 mile walking trail with outdoor fitness equipment, an 18 hole disc golf course, and a splash pad. This park is used for tournaments, local youth league play, and special events. The Park is Open from 7am to 9pm Daily
Cleveland Park is located in the historic center of Spartanburg, adjacent to the Northside Redevelopment project. Used for community meetings, special events, and weddings, a lakeside park also provides a much needed shelter from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with walking trails, lakeside swings, benches, playgrounds and picnic pavilions. The Park is open daily from 7am to 9pm

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate
NEW IN 2018! One mother had a wish to create a place in Upstate South Carolina where children would be inspired and learn in a hands on environment. In December 2003, local benefactors donated the former Greenville County Library building and plans for The Children’s Museum of the Upstate began to take shape. On July 31, 2009 this one of a kind educational attraction opened on the cultural campus of Heritage Green in downtown Greenville. TCMU remains committed to serving the needs and interests of all children by providing experiences that stimulate curiosity, stir the imagination and develop a lifelong love of learning. Spartanburg Regional History Museum
In the Beautiful Chapman Cultural Center, the Museum’s permanent exhibit offers a walk-through of Spartanburg history from the early days of Spanish explorers like Juan Pardo to the military training camps of the 20th century’s two World Wars and beyond. The decorative arts gallery showcases the Museum’s outstanding collection of Spartanburg and Piedmont area furniture including locally made pottery, hand-crafted quilts and samplers, and other artwork. A rotating exhibit changes every two to three months to explore a variety of engaging historical topics related to the region.
This is how the “Hub City” got it’s name! Spartanburg built it’s name as a hub for Trains as they would stop here to get their next destination. The Hub City Railroad Museum is located on the Southern Railway Spartanburg Union Depot! This spot used to employ over a thousand workers to maintain train cars for the Southern Railway Fleet!
